Support for workplace psychological injury

Positive Solutions is able to accept referrals under Tasmanian Workers Compensation to assist those who have incurred a psychological injury. Referral can be made by a rehabilitation provider, insurer, nominated treating doctor, or employer. However, it’s crucial to obtain approval from an insurer claims manager before proceeding with any services.

Supporting psychological health to re-enter the workforce

Our team of experienced practitioners support individuals in overcoming the hurdles and barriers posed by work-related injuries and trauma through evidence-based counselling techniques. With the individual they set achievable goals and provide strategies to overcome these barriers resulting in an improvement in their wellbeing, quality of life and work capacity.

Our staff work within a defined Clinical Framework to assist an individual in reclaiming a sense of wellbeing and to provide that individual with guidance and tools in their recovery journey. The Clinical Framework is based on the following principles:

  1. measure and demonstrate the effectiveness of treatment
  2. adopt a biopsychosocial approach
  3. empower the person to manage their injury
  4. implement goals focused on optimising function, participation and return to work
  5. base treatment on best available research evidence

Facilitated conversation or mediation

Facilitated discussions or mediation is a voluntary process that offers a safe and supported environment to identify the barriers to returning to work and assists individuals and their employer on reaching a mutual agreement and pathway forward. Return to healthy work is the overarching goal for all injured workers.

Facilitated discussions or mediations are conducted by independent professionals who are experienced in dealing with workplace psychological injuries.

What is the main difference between supervision and counselling?

Supervision is not counselling. It’s a structured, reflective discussion aimed at professional development.

Is supervision used for disciplinary action?

No, it’s not a tool for disciplinary action or performance management. It’s a growth-focused approach.

How does supervision enhance ethical practice?

Studies like the one from Schoenwald, Sheidow, and Chapman (2009) indicate enhanced abilities to monitor and regulate ethical practices through supervision.
